Buffalo Athletic Director Danny White 'the leading candidate' for Central Florida AD opening

UB Athletics

Bull Run is hearing from multiple directions this morning that UB Athletic Director Danny White is a 'leading candidate' for the same position at Central Florida. An article published by the Orlando Sentinel last night indicates that White is one of three finalists for the position who will be interviewing Monday in Chicago with UCF President John Hitt:

A source with direct knowledge of the interviews told the Orlando Sentinel UCF President John Hitt will interview three athletics director finalists Monday in Chicago. One of the finalists is Kentucky deputy athletics director DeWayne Peevy, a former media relations director for the SEC and close confidant of Wildcats basketball coach John Calipari. University of Buffalo athletics director Danny White, the son of Duke athletics director Kevin White who has worked with Hitt in the past, is also said to be a finalist.

It's surprising to not see Bowling Green's Chris Kingston on that list. Not only is Kingston a UCF Alum, but he might bring football coach Dino Babers to Orlando to fill that opening as well in a package deal.

We will have more as we learn more on this scenario, but all indications are that UCF is looking to move extremely quickly in their hiring process.

White has been the target of some controversy in his years at Buffalo, rebranding the department to more accurately reflect its status as the largest public representative of its state and reconfiguring ticket and donation schemes to aggressively bring in needed money and capital improvements, but at times finding his projects at odds with portions of the school's small fanbase and larger groups of casual fans in the Western New York area. He has hired new head coaches in most sports and has seen improvement on the field and increased energy in recruiting across the full spectrum of Buffalo's 20 sports.
