Buffalo Bulls Basketball Hopes to rally at home

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

In the MAC road victories are hard to come by and a road heavy start has seen UB drop three games on the road. What do the lights out shooting of central Michigan and last minute heroics of Ohio have in common? They happened in front of their home crowds.

That's basketball in the MAC. UB is a young team finding itself this season and right now they desperately need a healthy home crowd, thus far this season has seen a single game played at Alumni while students were on campus. That changes this week.

UB hosts Western Michigan and Kent state this week and the Athletics department has been busy at work trying to make the most of the teams seven remaining home games.

If you're a student what is UB doing to get you out?

How about free tuition. Every time you swipe your card at a mens or womens game you get an entry into a March 6th drawing for free fall 2015 tuition. That's more than a dozen opportunities and each game attended is another slip of paper with your name on it.

The Department is also putting 10,000 dollars on the line as part of a shootout contest to be held every game. It begins January 30th against Kent State and ends when a UB Student walks off the court 10,000 dollars richer.

Starting on 27 there will be a shuttle service between C3 dining hall and Alumni during games. It starts 45 minutes before tipoff and goes every 10 minutes until the game is over.

Finally there is going to be a lot of food and product giveaways at games. Nothing attracts college kids like free food and swag. Heck I see 50 year old engineers break into a full sprint sprint for tee shirts while away at conferences.

Kent State is a particular challenge for UB. The game was initially set for Saturday and was the leading group sales event of the season for UB Athletics. Then ESPN moved the game to Friday night which costs UB a lot of those sales. Some groups have rescheduled but there is still unexpected capacity at the game.

Hence a blackout and even Party at the point this Friday. Below is UB's promotional poster.

It starts tomorrow against WMU so welcome back to campus and have fun at the game!
