New, 4 comments

With a 12-1 win over #6 Central Michigan, UB is now 1 win away from the MAC Softball Tournament finals.

UB Athletics

The Bulls will face #5 Ohio Friday at 5pm, they split their only two meetings earlier this year in Athens.

UB won easily against #7 Northern Illinois on Wednesday, taking an early lead thanks to a NIU error, and stretched the lead to 5-0 before Tori Speckman's shutout was broken up in the third inning. Up 9 to 2 late on the brink of the run rule, NIU rallied for 4 runs in the 6th inning to bring the score to 9-6, UB scored 2 more and Speckman shut down the Huskies to give UB the 11-6 win.

Today, UB jumped out with two big 5-run innings. In the second inning, Hayley Barrow hit a solo home run to start the scoring. After a Ryleigh Fitzgerald RBI single, Gallardo knocked in a 3-run homerun.

In the 5th inning poor fundamentals hurt CMU. Two Bulls were on base, one from a walk and one was hit by a pitch. An error kept the inning alive and a run scored. Another walk loaded the bases when Savanna Norcio doubled to send two more runs in. Alexis Curtiss singled for another 2 runs. In the inning UB scored 5 runs with two outs, and took a commanding 12-1 lead. Speckman closed the door in the bottom of the 5th, forcing 3 pop flys and the run rule took effect giving Buffalo the 12-1 win.

Buffalo will face Ohio at 5pm on Friday, if they lose they will play a second semi-final against the winner of the loser's bracket. If UB wins, they will be in the finals with 2 chances to win the MAC Tournament.
