Buffalo Basketball: Jenna Rickan Senior Salute

UB Athletics

Buzz Before She Got Here: Rickan was a three-sport star for Kenmore West right in UB's backyard, lettering in Soccer, Basketball, and Softball for the Blue Devils. Despite scoring over 1000 career points on the hardwood and being named Tonawanda News Player of the Year in softball, Rickan continued her athletic career by playing soccer for four years at Syracuse.

She eventually got her head on straight, as she used the Paulus rule to get away from the Orange and join the good guys on the basketball court for one season.

Senior Moment: Rickan spent four years focusing on soccer but her production this year with UB leaves me wondering what could have been if she had never stopped playing hoops. Her season highs in both points and rebounds came on a 15 and 6 day against the Western Michigan Broncos.

But Rickan's value to the team can't really be measured in any one game high. In a season where UB has had to overcome significant injuries and has at times gotten into foul trouble, Rickan has been able to step right in and provide quality minutes while Margeaux Gupilan and Mackenzie Loesing recharge. It's too bad we've only had her for one year, but like Josh Freelove on the men's side, the transfer has been much more than just a stopgap to even out scholarship distribution.

Thanks for coming home to Buffalo, Jenna.
