Joshua Freelove Named MAC East POW

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

\For the second straight week a UB men's basketball player has been named the MAC East Player of the Week but this time it was not the Kraken.  Instead senior transfer Joshua Freelove used his career-high 24 points against Miami to secure the honor.

Over the course of last wee Freelove averaged 19.0 points as the bulls scored a pair of wins at Ohio and against Miami.  In the victory over the RedHawks. The wins have UB currently #2 seed and a bye into the semi finals. The victories also guarantee the worst UB can do seeding wise is a number three seed and a bye into the quarter finals.

Against Miami Freelove finished with a career-high 24 points, including 21 of those in the second half.  In fact, Freelove nearly outscored the entire Miami offense in the second half.  He was extremely efficient from the floor, shooting 8-of-12, including 6-of-10 from three point range.  In the second half, Freelove was 7-of-8 from the floor and 5-of-6 from three-point range.  The six three pointers were the most by a UB player this season.  In the win at Ohio, Freelove was one of four players in double figures with 14 points.  The victory helped snap a seven-game losing skid to the Bobcats.

Freelove was originally a Toledo recruit who transfered to Alabama State. When that team went under sanctions for APR issues and Bobby Hurly was hired on at Buffalo the NCAA granted the Junior an excemption from sitting for one year if he transferred to Buffalo.

NExt up for freelove and the Bulls? A difficult road contest in Akron.  With a win, the Bulls will clinch the outright MAC East Title.  Tip off is at 7:00 pm and can be seen live on TWCS.
