Buffalo Baseball Weekend Wrapup

Buffalo walks out of Virginia with a 3-1 weekend record which lifts their season mark to an impressive 6-1. The only hangup came against VMI's ace pitcher Reed Garrett. Still even with the loss UB is out to their best start of Ron Torgalski's coaching tenure with Buffalo, in fact its the best UB start since the 1960's.

Batter of the week: Mike Scarcello - There was a lot of offense to be had but you have to give the player of the week honors to the guy who hits a game winning homer in the bottom of the 10th inning. While it's true that VMI gave him fits in both games he emerged from the week with 17 at bats, 6 hits, and five runs batted in. Among those RBI's were todays two in the 10th inning.

Some other players had better numbers on paper but when the pressure was on today Scarcello delivered.

Pitcher of the week: Mike Mcgee - Sure he absorbed UB's only loss of the season but it was not a bad pitching outing. In six innings he gave up just three hits and three walks while striking out seven players. Buffalo's loss to VMI came at the plate, not from the mound.

Honorable Mention to Mike Burke who may very well have pitched a shutout if not for some fielding issues in today's game.

What's next?

The Bulls will have their toughest test of the season when they take on Georgia. They will also be taking on Wesern Carolina and Northern Florida..
