If it seems like our hockey coverage slid a bit I apologize. The Bulls will be back in action for the first time in nearly a month. They had last week off and home games against Indiana Tech scheduled two weeks ago were cancelled because of the record setting snowfall in the Buffalo area.
Well that and UB's coaching Hire stole some of our time away from Hockey.
But there is no way we could pass up talking about this weekends hockey games versus Kent. The non scholarship Kent Hockey team is going where the football teams equipment truck could not go; Amherst.
The Buffalo Bulls will be hosting Kent State on Friday at the Northtown Center at Amherst. Then on Saturday the two teams will play outdoors at the "Healthy Zone Rink" in East Aurora, NY.
In 2008 Ralph Wilson Stadium hosted the first-ever outdoor NHL game in the United States. The Winter Classic put the Buffalo Sabres up against the Pittsburgh Penguins before record-setting crowd of 71,217.
After the game the Aurora Ice Association purchased the ice-making equipment from the NHL, and with the support of hundreds of passionate volunteers built a tribute rink which is nestled in the Village of East Aurora. Since opening in the fall of 2008, the venue has added a pavilion-style roof, locker rooms and a warming hut for guests.
Address to the rink: 41 Riley Street, East Aurora, NY 14052 and the game time is set for 3:15pm.
Kent is 11-9 on the season and riding a two game win streak. They are led by Jonathon Buttitta who's 34 points on the season is as much as the next two Golden Flashes combined.
At the conclusion of the Saturday game there will be free open skate with the UB Hockey team for all families, friends, and fans who attend the game. Please bring your ice skates and dress warm.
