As the calendar turned, Bobby Hurley and the Bulls had one final tune up scheduled before the real season - the newly 18-game conference slate - started. Unfortunately, Buffalo may be heading into their January 8 matchup against Northern Illinois on a long layover.
According to Rodney McKissic, South Dakota State's flight from Chicago to Western New York has been cancelled, rendering it impossible for the teams to meet for the scheduled 7 o clock tip tomorrow evening.
Buffalo is now saying that they are working with the Jackrabbits to ensure the game goes on sometime this weekend. That would be a welcome opportunity, from my perspective, as without this final OOC game, the Bulls face the prospect of going a finals break-esque ten days without a competitive game.
South Dakota State also represents an opportunity for another winnable game for the Bulls after their scrappy win on the road at Drexel. SDSU has a relatively pedestrian 8-7 record but falls in the same decile in the KenPom ratings (156 and 180, respectively). A game against the Jackrabbits allows both the Bulls and their fans to learn more about the state of the team heading into MAC play.
Stay tuned for more updates.
