The University at Buffalo Men's Ice Hockey team finished last season on the best note possible given their situation. After dropping a few key NECHL games, the Bulls had fallen out of contention for a spot in the ACHA National Tournament. All that was left to play for was the NECHL playoff championship, which they won 8-7 in dramatic fashion over the top-ranked Niagara Purple Eagles
This year the Bulls hope to build on their 28-4-4 record and receive an elusive bid to national tournament. This can be obtained one of two ways; winning the NECHL Regular Season Championship (for best league record) or finishing in the top 20 of the ACHA rankings.
The Bulls come into this season with plenty of fresh faces since they lost 9 seniors last year. Coach Sal Valvo is very optimistic coming into the new season. "I think we made a statement last year winning the NECHL playoffs, and we know that every team is going to give us their best. We have a target on our back and have to come prepared to every game". The ACHA Coach of the Year nominee also mentioned the excitement in the Bulls' locker room. "The boys have really come together in the last few weeks. I'm very impressed with the way a championship team can add so many new players and accept them in such a short time".
The Bulls will see some familiar faces and some new ones this season. They'll play in the ACHA Showcase October 11th-13th in Cleveland, OH. UB will also host the annual "Blizzard in Buffalo" tournament welcoming ECC, John Carroll, and Drexel University.
