NCAA Baseball Toledo at Buffalo

Twenty Six games into the season and finally UB will be playing at home.

Over the past several weeks Buffalo has played a "Home" series against CMU in Rochester and a "Road" game 5 miles from Campus against the Griffs. Finally this weekend, weather permitting, Buffalo will suit up for a game at Audubon Field. So is the lot for northern college baseball teams.

The Toledo Rockets Baseball team gets the honor of being the first team to visit Buffalo this season. Toledo comes into the game sporting a 3-4 conference record having started 3-1 before dropping their last three games. But those losses came at the hands of Kent and Miami, two of the stronger teams in the MAC.

The Rockets are led by Tyler Grogg and Matt Delewski who's batting averages put them both among the top 100 players nationwide but as a team they don't have a lof of power hitting. Toledo does damage with good base running. Grogg's stealing nearly three bases every four games (0.72 SPG) which ranks him tenth in nation.

The Rockets have been battering far better in conference play than on the season as a whole but their pitching has really struggled. Toledo is sporting a 5.26 ERA against MAC teams, making them second to last in the conference ahead of only Eastern Michigan. The 15 doubles given up by the Rockets is the worst in the conference.

On the mound Wilkinson and Shaw are the best Starters Toledo has with both putting up ERA's in the mid threes and they do have a solid reliever in Tyson who has appeared in seven games, pitching about two inners per appearance and having the seventh best reliever ERA in the conference.

Buffalo (4-2) is trying to keep pace with Kent (4-2) and Miami (5-1). UB is also still clinging to the best overall record in the conference (14-12).

The hero last week on the mound was River McWilliams who made two late game appearances and each time shut down what seemed to be the beginnings of a rally by Western Michigan. Buffalo dominated the first matchup and then split a tight double header with each game coming down to the last pitch with the twinning run in scoring position.
