This weekend UB Baseball will take it's crack at the Ontario Sandwich Trophy. They will make the trip of To Ypsi to take on Sam Ott and the EMU Eagles.

Ott is second in the MAC in both rbi's and runs scored he leads an offense that has struggled to compensate for a struggling pitching staff.

The Eagles are squad which tries to get by on a solid work ethic and making the most of their opportunities. They are not a great power hitting squad as evidenced by their low national raking in Doubles and Home Runs but Daniel Russell ranks 14th nationally in triples while the Eagles as a whole are 25th in the nation.

On the defensive side of things EMU is very good at turning double plays pulling off about one per game (good for 44th nationally) but their WHIP leaves a bit to be desired putting nearly one and a half batters on base via walks and hits.

Their main weapon on the mound is Paul Schaak who's strikeout to walk ratio is 5.5.

Buffalo continued to employ their formula against Toledo last week. In the two games UB won last week the Bulls had solid pitching that went late into the game had had several innings where they did damage on the scoreboard.

Last week Buffalo's Anthony Magovney was named the Mid-American East Division Conference for his complete-game 3-1 win in game over hte rockets. Magovney got through 9 innings while throwing just 90 pitches and faced just just three batters over the minimum. During the game he struck out six batters and did not allow a single walk.

Jason Kanzler, Jon Mestas, and Tyler Mautner have all been on fire for the Bulls during conference play. Their batting averages are 424, 406, and 303 respectively. Mestas, in addition to getting on base is very efficient at stealing bases.

UB has yet to sweep a series this year and they have to play Kent next weekend so all of the games this week are critically important. Kent has to tangle with Miami so best case scenario would be for Buffalo to sweep and Kent to take two out of three from the RedHawks, that would put UB in first after about half of MAC play.
