Basebulls finish non conference slate

UB went through their nonconference slate with a 10-8 record, one of their best showings in recent years. The played number two, as in nationally, Vanderbilt down to the wire and have shown pitching which has far exceeded exceptions.

The Bulls kept it close thanks to a solid day defensively. Starter Zach Stephens was able to manage the powerful Vandy offense despite some control issues. The Commodores were only able to get a pair of runs off sacrifice flies in the second and fourth innings. Ben Hartz would pitch two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The host CMU to kick off conference play. But they won't be able to host on Campus, the field is not quite ready.

Baseball Moves Weekend Series to Monroe Community College - Buffalo Athletics
BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo baseball team will have to wait a little while longer to play its first true home game of the 2013 season, as it was announced today that the team will host Central Michigan at Monroe Community College in Rochester. The two schools will play a three-game weekend series, starting on Friday at 3 pm.

Rowing Kicks off The Season

UB's most successful program, crew, kicked off their season by owning the Cardinal Invite..

Both the varsity four "A" and the second varsity eight raced to exciting victories. The varsity four "A" sailed to a win over Georgetown and West Virginia as well UB's own lightweight eight, which in a close contest took fourth. The Bulls second varsity eight was victorious over crews from Georgetown and West Virginia as well.

Women's Tennis

Speaking of strong squads the UB Women remained undefeated after storming through Louisiana. This is a team that should make a lot of noise in conference play.

Bulls Sweep Past New Orleans For Ninth Straight Victory - Buffalo Athletics
The domination continued into singles play where Buffalo won all six matches in straight sets. Shah picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at first singles, while Podlas dropped just two games and won at second singles, 6-1, 6-1. Markovic was the only player to go into a tiebreaker as she won at third singles, 6-2, 7-6 (12-10). Canadanoza won her contest at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-0 and Kapoor picked up a victory at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-2. Stoyanova completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at sixth singles.

Women's hoops finishes a strong year

The overall record does not look like too much but the team got better and better as the season went on. They finished 8-8 in regular season MAC play and then went 2-1 in the MAC tournament. Their loss to Akron was a hear breaker as the Bulls gave the third seeded Zip's all they could handle. Akron eventually prevailed but did so only during the last minute or so of the game.

Behind a 22-7 scoring run early in the second half, Buffalo rallied from 14 points down to take a 58-57 lead. After a Kristen Sharkey free throw gave the Bulls a 70-66 lead with 5:43, Akron's Taylor Ruper hit a three-pointer and was fouled. Her free throw tied the game at 70 and sparked an anxious Akron team.

Softball

Hard week for Buffalo as the Bulls went just 2-5 if that does not make a week forgettable shudder to think what would. But hey, at least they finished the week with a win

Junior Tori Speckman struck out a career-high 12 batters and pitched a complete game two-hitter on Sunday afternoon as the Bulls ended their Spring Break trip with a 3-1 victory over Texas-Arlington. This afternoon's game capped off a 22-game road trip to start the season.

Diving Shows Well At Zones

Second Day of Zone Diving Championships Completed - Buffalo Athletics
In the women's one-meter event, Ava Giachino finished 13th and Rachel Eckert placed 14th overall among 43 entrants. Giachino finished with a two-round total score of 463.50. Eckert scored 462.00 points for her preliminary and championship rounds. Virginia Tech's Kaylea Arnett, Friday's three-meter champion, won Saturday's one-meter competition with 606.35 points. In the men's three-meter event, Shawn Hoffman finished 10th with a two-round total of 631.30 points.

Outdoor Track Begins

Bulls Open Outdoor Track Slate at Wake Forest Open - Buffalo Athletics
The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season with seven first-place and five second-place finishes at the Wake Forest Open. There was no team scoring in the meet as the Bulls established three school records.

The University at Buffalo men's tennis team fell back to .500 with a 7-2 loss at Lynn University (12-1), the number three ranked team in Division II. Following the weekend matches in Florida, the Bulls are 6-6.
