Future Bulls - Greg Lis

Bull Run will be running a series on some of the players who are expected to sight a letter of intent to come play football at Buffalo.

Vitals

Position: Linebacker

High School: De Paul Catholic, Wayne N.J.

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 220

Origin Story

Greg Lis is a prototypical inside linebacker from De Paul Catholic High School in Wayne New Jersey. He's one of the first guys to hit the weight room and often the last one to leave. That kind of work out regime has helped Lis pack 220 pounds on his six foot one incr frame. He's already physically as big as some of UB's graduating seniors, and with some of the age in the unit he could be called on early in his career.

He followed up a Junior year which saw 111 tackles with a senior season that saw hum tally 82 tackles, 54 solo tackles, ten tackles for loss and three sacks. The athletic linebacker also managed six pass deflections and an interception. On the offensive side of the Ball Lis was used as a lineman.

Lis chose Buffalo over Colgate, Massachusetts and Tulane. Central Florida, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rutgers and Syracuse also showed interest, but no scholarships were offered from those schools.

Lis has managed to become the Quarterback of his defense, and is trusted by his coaching staff to make needed adjustments on the fly.

"He’s our leader out there, too. He’s in charge of the huddle, makes the adjustments. Hes extremely smart, extremely quick on his reads, so he’s able to get to the ball-carrier." -- DePaul coach John McKenna

2013 Prospectus

Lis was named to the Passaic County first team defense and the the all state "non public" first team defense.

Where does Lis fit?

Lis is walking into one of the units with the biggest potential for a 2014 shakeup. But before UB gets to the post Khalil Mack era they have to worry about next season. UB is only losing one starter but they are losing a good deal of their senior depth. No less than three linebackers on UB's 2012 two deep are gone, Mack will be gone after this season, and the year after the other three remaining players are set to graduate.

1st (2013 Class)
OLB Khalil Mack (Sr)
ILB Jake Stockman (Jr)
ILB Lee Skinner (Jr)
OLB Kendall Roberson (Jr)

Someone with the size and speed of Lis could very well find his way onto the depth chart next season. After the four presumed starters (really just a SWAG) the following players will be fighting for a spot on the depth chart

Player Year 13 GP 12
Khari Brown JR 12
Waylon Fink R-FR 0
Nick Gilbo JR 0
Ryan Paxson JR 4
Travis Pitzonka R-FR 12
Brandon Tammaro R-SO 0

I never bet for a true freshman to see the field but of all the players in this years Class Lis has the skill, and is in the position, to make it.
