Buffalo Athletics and WGRZ hit a landmark deal

WGRZ is now the “Official Station of the UB Bulls”

Well isn't this all kinds of cool!

The station and UB Athletics are teaming up in a way that will greatly expand the Buffalo Bulls brand in the Western New York marketplace. WGRZ is the top-rated news and sports station in Western New York.

The partnership kicks off with the  “UB Football All-Access Show” on December 14. From then on WGRZ will air 32 weekly television shows devoted to UB Athletics.

It's not a terrible time slot either. The 30-minute show will air on Saturdays at 7:30 pm on WGRZ with a replay on Sunday mornings at 6:00 am. It will run through the 2013-2014 basketball season and during the 2014 football campaign.

“The Bobby Hurley Show” will debut in January. The show will feature interviews with Coach Hurley and student-athletes as well as highlights of the UB men’s basketball team throughout the season.

Now here is the big part.

Per the agreement, WGRZ will air one regular season football and men’s basketball game live on Channel 2. It's just one game but it's a good start! On top of those games up to 10 live game broadcasts of football and men’s basketball, and potentially more depending on clearance, will air on WGRZ’s digital channel D2 (2.2).

“We’re proud to partner with WGRZ. It’s a significant point of pride for us and we feel this is a powerful platform as we continue to tell the story of our 500 student-athletes competing in the classroom and on the court and fields of play. We’re going to continue to build a competitive athletics department that competes for conference championships and makes our alumni and community proud.” -- UB Athletic Director Danny White

Of the deal WGRZ President & General Manager Jim Toellner said

“We are very enthused to partner with the University as they continue to grow their Division I athletic program in both size and stature. Big time college athletics are something this community is really just beginning to experience and embrace, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”

Im going to put this out here for WGRZ; I'm sure we can work out a syndication deal on "Last Bull In" if you want to capture the 1:00am UB sports fan market.
