Famous Idaho Potato Bowl 2013 - Get to Know San Diego Quarterback Quinn Kaehler

Get to know your spud bowls quarterbacks.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Quinn Kaehler came to San Diego State University as a JUCO transfer from Diablo Valley College. He ended up at with the Aztecs because, in part, nobody else was pursuing him. His second year at Diablo should have put him on more radars but despite going 309-for-511 (60.5 percent) for 4,044 yards and 38 touchdowns against 12 interceptions it was a walk on chance at Sand Diego or nothing.

The Seattle, Washington native transferred to San Diego and earned his way up to the number two spot on the depth chart during the off season. He would become the man who may have saved the Aztecs season.

A tough start by Adam Dingwell in week one against EIU was followed by a tough first quarter at Ohio State and in came Quinn Kaehler. Dingwell's backup went 22 of 36 for 212 yards with a touchdown and an interception. That was enough to earn him a shot at the starting job.

Kaehler and Dingwell were slated to compete for the job but a back injury to the first stringer prompted the coaches to go with Kaehler. The one time Aztec walk on led SDSU to a 7-3 record as a starter and as a starter he has thrown for more than 2,500 yards to lead his team to a Bowl game.

Nobody is going to confuse Kaehler with Jordan Lynch. He's not a dynamic running threat nor does he have a powerful arm. He has proved this season to be an accurate passer who makes good use of the tools he has around him.

In some ways it's already been a dream season for Quinn Kaehler. He and the Aztecs hope to complete that season with a bowl win in Boise
