Let's take a look at Buffalo's minimum recruiting needs for the class of 2013. These are the minimum needs as figured out by SWAG estimation. Things like quality of talent in a given year as compared to the following year are considered by the coaches and are often the explanation for taking more than the needed minimum.
Attrition consists of, but is not limited to: early departures for the NFL (Which won't be happening), failing out of school, transferring to another school for more playing time, career-ending injuries, disciplinary departures and players electing to end their eligibility to pursue a career in something other than sports. Obviously, some of these situations are difficult to predict.
Buffalo is scheduled to lose 12 players to graduation this season, eight of them are defensive players and four offensive.

Quarterback: The Bulls could technically return four quarterbacks in 2013, but realistically, attrition of one may occur. Taking a quarterback is a possibility, but certainly not a need. Most schools prefer to carry three or four QBs. The only QB lost is Jerry Davis.
Skill (RB/WR/TE): The minimum here is generally considered to be 20. But Buffalo has averaged 26 with Jeff Quinn as head coach.
They are running with 27 this season and are set to return 26 players. The Bulls already have far more recruits than they have averaged. The Bigger issue is the number of Juniors, eight.
Thus, a minimum of four skill recruits will likely be brought in. But within this, a look at specific positions is also needed. Buffalo needs future dept at tight end. That's something to keep an eye on.
Offensive Line: 15 is generally considered the minimum number of linemen you want to carry under most circumstances. Buffalo had a scant 14 when Coach Quinn arrived. After two years of solid recruiting the Bulls return 16. They will lose four after next season. Thus, Buffalo needs to bring in a minimum of three offensive linemen this year if they want to guarantee 15 for 2013.
Defensive Line: 12 is the minimum here in a 3-4 defense, and within that, at least nine ends. Buffalo will is set to return 15 defensive linemen, Among them are two starters. Numbers wise Buffalo needs to bring in a minimum of five defensive linemen. At least three of the five need to be defensive ends. One of those might be a JUCO player, Coach Quinn has went that way before.
Linebacker: The minimum here is generally 12 in a 3-4 defense. Buffalo will is set to return just nine linebackers, and. The Bulls could almost move one of their linemen over to linebacker. If they go that way UB needs to bring in a minimum of two linebackers. If none of the defensive line
Defensive Back: A minimum of 14 defensive backs is typically desired. Buffalo will return 17 from the current roster and lose five more after 2013. UB will fine this season but they will pick up one or two just to keep the number of backs high.
Special Teams: The Bulls typically want to have a kicker and punter on scholarship. Both starters are young and its reasonable to expect that Buffalo will not bring in
Recap Of Minimum Needs:
To maintain the current roster numbers UB needs one quarterback, one receiver, two offensive linemen, three linebackers, three defensive linemen, two linebackers, and two defensive backs.
But the bigger areas of need, if one takes 2013 into account the Bulls should add two running backs, a full back, three tight ends, and several more offensive and defensive linemen.
The Current class has 10 verbals.
