Pickett's Mug shot via UB Athletics
Know your Bulls is a countdown to the kick off. If will look at every single UB football player on the roster. When the players number matches the number of days remaining then it's his turn in the spotlight.
Position: Offensive Line
From: Owego, New York
Used a red shirt and worked with the scout team
Jake Pickett's work ethic was a huge part of his success at Owego Free Academy.
"His work ethic is impeccable. He's a leader by example and kind of a soft-spoken kid, but someone that you want to have on your side," -- Owego Head Coach Brian Kinney
Still despite great grades and solid on the field performance in football, lacrosse, and baseball Pickett was not offered a scholarship. So he did what he has always done, decided to work harder.
Because of geography, and his interest in Engineering, UB was a natural choice.
Pickett is by no means "tiny" but 6'0 and 275 is on the small side for a division one offensive lineman. That size did not stop him from walking on and earn a post on Jeff Quinn's roster, but it has meant he needs some time to develop other skills before you'll see him on a Saturday.
Like many of the young UB linemen he has a lot of experience, and size, sitting in front of him this season which means 2012 will be a developmental year. Going into his second year on the team Pickett will continue to play a role on the scout teams, perhaps providing depth to the regular units at some point.
