Talking Bull: UB's Youth picking up the slack

Blue in the Face... And everywhere else

A while back posted a viral video of Utah State's "Wild Bill". Lamenting that UB had no such 'spark' in the student section. True blue has worked really hard to change that and they are making fantastic progress. Also promising are the antics of four incoming UB freshman who bring a uniqe experience to the game.

The Spectrum did a great piece on "The BlueGroup". If you read no other liks up here today be sure to read this one. Kids like this could tip UB attendance, over the long run, in a positive direction.

UB BlueGroup is a foursome of freshmen that met at orientation and through mutual friends. The group dresses in blue morphsuits to support Buffalo athletics, most noticeably, the men's basketball team. The group has become a consistent landscape on the arena floor in front of the student section.

Saban knows when he is beat:

Alabama was one of the power schools to push back multi year scholarships, thankfully they lost. Nick Saban who said it would hurt Alabama sees the future and stated he will start offering four year scholarships.

As a team, the Bulls (7-14, 1-4 MAC) finished the season strong with a pair of wins over SIU-Edwardsville (5-15) and Northern Illinois (8-9, 0-5 MAC). The expectations of the wrestling team are high as it heads to Athens, Ohio for the MAC championships.

With the win, the Bulls have clinched a top four seed and with that, they get a bye into the quarterfinals of the MAC tournament in Cleveland, Ohio. Looking ahead, the Bulls can earn a MAC regular season title if they beat their final opponent at home in Bowling Green (16-13, 9-6 MAC), and if Akron loses its finale to its hated rivals, Kent State (20-9, 10-5 MAC).

UB medley relay wins title - UB other - The Buffalo News
The University at Buffalo 400-yard medley relay team of Phil Aronica (Orchard Park), Josh Meints, Matt Schwippert (East Aurora) and Matt Hogan won a Mid-American Conference championship Thursday night, setting school, MAC and pool records in the process at Miami (Ohio) University's Cowin M. Nixon Aquatics Center.
