College Football Blogger Awards: Why let the Pro's have all the fun?

This is an awful time of year. I just ran out of thanksgiving turkey, I have a month to get my house ready for Christmas, it's unbelievably cold in Minnesota, and the Bulls are done for the year. Last season I kept my self busy with coach search 09.

While I have a few things in mind for this December and January truth is I have two great basketball bloggers taking care of the courts and 2010 is coming on to help me out with Hockey so I have a bit of time on my hands. Now I could take that time and do something useful like hanging Christmas lights or I could find a way to tie it into a college football season of which my Bulls are no longer a part. What to do?

I have decided, in a similar spirit to the one in which the Blog Poll was created, to do post season awards. We all know that you're run of the mill blogger sees more of the college football world than the average AP reporter so why not put that knowledge to good use?

Many of the awards are so tainted by a love for a particular position (QB's/RB's and the Heisman) or pre season notions that many outstanding performances go un recognized.

Here are the Post season Blogger Awards:

Blogger Heisman Outstanding Player
Blogger Coach Award Coach of the Year
Blogger Bednarik Award Defensive Player of the Year
Blogger O'Brien Award National Quarterback Award
Blogger Walker Award Outstanding Running Back
Blogger Biletnikoff Award Outstanding Wide Receiver
Blogger Mackey Award Outstanding Tight End
Blogger Outland Trophy Outstanding Interior Lineman
Blogger Hendricks Award Outstanding Defensive End
Blogger Thorpe Award Outstanding Defensive Back
Blogger Butkus Award Outstanding Linebacker
Blogger Groza Award Outstanding Place-kicker
Blogger Guy Award Outstanding Punter

So how do you vote? Simple! Just put up a post on your blog stating your top three choices for each award and mail me the URL or post it as a comment right here. While I would like to make sure every award gets voted on if you're really unsure about one leave it blank. If you need a starting point feel free to look at the top ten list for the 'real' version of these awards for some guidance and vet the candidates yourselves.

If you decide to participate please link this post and get the word out to other bloggers. I will be taking ballots until December 8th and will produce an award for any category that gets 20 or more votes.
