University at Buffalo never thought they were going to have an undefeated basketball season, but no one thought they would lose a free throw contest against a pitful Youngstown State basketball team.
Shooting 9/27 for 33% is not acceptable for a church league basketball team, let alone a DI Basketball program.
It was the first loss to Youngstown State since 2002 for UB (since we started playing real basketball)
Jawaan Alston and Dave Barnett each had 13 points to lead Buffalo (1-1).
UB was up 10-2 during the first 3 minutes of the game, making us all think maybe we have a real deal team here on our hands. That came back to a shattering halt.
If that was not bad enough, UB shot a paltry 38% and got badly out rebounded 33 to 46.
The Bulls need to find more creative ways to score, throwing it around the three point line and waiting for an open three, or someone open down low, reminds me of my Alumni Area boo's of last year.
However the 13 Turnovers was not too bad, and Byron is doing a decent job keeping the ball secure. He also had 6 steals.
K-Mass' Nugget of the game - Zach "hot as a pistol" Filzen shot 2-8 from three making him 6 - 19 on the season. I would like to see his woodchucker numbers go up a bit, if your going to take 19 threes in two games, you should be hitting around 8-10. He also turned it over a team high 3 times. He was also 3-12 from the field, and had a pitiful performance.
The team shot 13.3% from three.
See you all Saturday against Towson. Maybe we can have another home game onslaught. ...
