Someone 'in the know' sent me this weeks two deep much of which has already been leaked in bits and pieces via twitter and message boards. I had to wait for an actual journalist to take pity on me as Bull Run is not yet included in some of these press releases.
Rather than tease you with bits and pieces here is what was sent to me.I had been mulling over not releasing this until UB released the official depth chart themselves but given that so any of the key positions have been leaked I feel comfortable throwing the whole thing out there. I trust the source completely but keep in mind that whats printed on the two deep, and what happens on the field do sometimes differ.
The first thing to jump out is that Oliver is starting at halfback, with Nduka and Thermilus as the 'second' and 'third' back. Its likely that all three are at about the same place on the depth chart.
Seeing Gill at fourth is not a huge surprise given all the hype around Oliver this off season, and the reps he was getting.. Someone on UBFan brought up the idea that he might be red shirted sitting behind so much talent, but that's doubtful.
Quinn used more than six running running backs last season, and that was on a team that probably could have gotten away with two, three tops so not only do I think Gill will see the field, as a running back, this season but I also think that there is a decent shot someone not on this two deep may get at least a couple of touches.
The wide out two deep is not very telling. While its not surprising to Neutz on the first team it is mildly unexpected to see him listed in what I presume to be the X receiver spot (if the order in the two deep has any meaning). Any receiver listed in the 'second team' is pretty likely have their chances this year, three receivers is almost a goal line set for Quinn.
Nothing earth shattering on defense, the only position battle which was really a dogfight was the quest to replace Mike Newton. Ray Anthony Long, who had 11 tackles last season, beat out Issac Baugh and Bunduka Kargbo.
The only other thing of note is that Fardon is not listed as the first punter, instead that goes to Jake Schum. But this may be an 'or' situation until things get straightened out.
