This has nothing to do with sports, Buffalo, or UB but dang if its not a nice way to start your day!
Good summary of the players in the MAC who might have an impact in the 2013 NFL Draft. UB Bulls represented by DE Steven Means.
Ratings for every player in EA Sports NCAA13
Capping off a career that saw him leave his name all over the Buffalo baseball record books, junior catcher Tom Murphy was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the third round of the 2012 Major League Baseball first-year player draft, 105 overall. He is the highest of the three players taken in the draft since the program's reinstatement, and in the program's history, he was the earliest drafted player since Peter Grimm went 56 overall in 1983.
The difference for Buffalo this year will be whether or not they can take a step forward on defense. Last year they were a middle of the road MAC defense (6th in total defense, 8th in scoring defense). They have a very strong LB corps (Phil Steele ranks it third in the MAC) but they have questions along the line and in the defensive backfield. From an experience standpoint, this is going to be one of the youngest teams in the MAC. This looks like it will be another year where the Bulls take a small step forward (in terms of being competitive) and hope to make that big jump in 2013.
The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics announced today that Linda Hill-MacDonald will not return as women's basketball coach after seven seasons leading the Bulls.
Former UB football player Jamey Richard signs with the Patriots. Will join former teammate Trevor Scott.
Kanzler added a sacrifice fly in the sixth that brought home Andy Smietana, and the Bulls tacked on three runs in the ninth which proved to be crucial in the home half of the final inning. Scahill drew a 3-2 walk and was moved over by a single by Murphy. Baldock brought them both in on a double off the wall in left field, and Scarcello then hit a soft line drive to center field that would score Baldock and give the Bulls a 10-2 lead.
Western Michigan would certainly not go quietly in the ninth though, piecing together seven hits and six runs to make the Bulls sweat it out. Despite being up on the count to many of the WMU batters, the UB pitchers could not get that final call and allowed four two-out runs before Dan Ginader secured the win. The sophomore, who will now get the start tonight against Kent State, retired the only batter he faced for his first career save.
Revenge served cold. UB eliminates Ohio Bobcats from tournament.
Big Ten Membership: Buffalo, Central Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame*, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin Champion: Ohio State Demoted to MAC: Buffalo Like Rice, Buffalo took a step backwards in 2009. And since they were, like 2005 Akron, surprise MAC winners, they probably knew in advance that their Tier 1 stay was not going to last very long. Take the money and run!
