After being named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year following his senior season Jason Kanzler took his 330 batting average, 12 home runs, and 53 RBI's into the 2013 Major league Draft. Overall the senior was ranked among the top ten in nine different offensive categories.
After getting selected as the 590th pick in the draft Jason Kanzler spent last season in the Gulf Coat "rookie league" as a Minnesota Twin, this year he has moved up to A ball in Ceder Rapids Iowa where he is starting to really turn heads.
Kanzler had an RBI triple and run-scoring double as Cedar Rapids (25-28) won for the third time in four games. He has his batting average up over the .300 mark (at .303), seemingly finding a home in the middle of the order.
He was the Kernels’ leadoff hitter when he arrived in town from Minnesota Twins, something he has worked at getting comfortable with, given the fact he likes to swing away.
"Leadoff guys need to take pitches and work counts, not exactly what Kanzler is about." -- Jeff Johnson, Sports Reporter
Since returning from a concussion week ago, he’s 12 for 33 with three home runs and nine RBIs. Last nights fireworks were witnessed by the Minnesota Twins General Manager Terry Ryan.
