The Buffalo Bulls faced the Miami Redhawks in a must win game for both teams. It was a rematch of the opening round game that saw UB squeak out a 6-5 win in the 9th inning. Miami then downed Central Michigan in their first elimination game. Buffalo faced Akron in the "Winners Game" getting drubbed 7-1, advancing Akron to the Quarter finals and setting up todays contest.
On a day when Mike Burke would throw a complete game shutout the Bulls did not need a lot of offense, and between the second and 7th innings there was not offense. Buffalo scored in the first off of a Tyle Mautner sacrifice fly that scored Jimmy Topps. Topps having gotten a lead off walk to start the game.
From there on it was the mike Burke show. Burke was not overpowering but he was efficient and managed the game. His four strikeouts against 7 hits allowed was enough to send UB into the next round.
In the eigth inning Burke would get two insurance runs. It started with a Tops lead off double. He was advanced by a Sinay sac bunt and then scored on a single by Matt Pollock. Later Pollock would score on an error.
UB got one more insurance run in the 9th when Kyle Brennen, who had led off with a double, scored on a hit by Dudek single.
Buffalo will face Akron with the Bulls need two wins to get past the Quarterfinals. The Zips, by virtue of their win over UB yesterday only need one win to advance.
