BullRun Travel Agency Guide to GoDaddy Bowl

USA TODAY Sports

Bull Run will provide you travel information on the Bowl Games we hope UB gets invited to.  The fifth Bowl Game is the GoDaddy Bowl.

Brief History of the GoDaddy.com Bowl

The GoDaddy Bowl is a postseason NCAA-sanctioned Division I FBS college football bowl game that has been played annually at Ladd Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama since 1999. The game currently matches teams (typically the conference champions) from the Sun Belt Conference and the Mid-American Conference, and will through 2013.  Many people know this game as the GMAC Bowl.  The MAC has gone 7 - 4 in this Bowl.

It could be interesting to see Khallil Mack play in this stadium twice.  Ladd Peebles Stadium is also home to the Senior Bowl.

Average Weather in Mobile, Alabama

Weather is comparable to both San Diego and St. Petersburg.  The high will be 65 with a low of 44.

How to get to Mobile, Al

Flight - USAir has a reasonable flight at $398.10.  This is the latest MAC Bowl game held on lands on a Sunday, January 5.  I have you flying in around noon on Friday and late afternoon Monday.   Yeah, you do not have to go through the armpit of airports in Philly.  Connection for this flight is in Charlotte.  One of my favorite airports.  Good food, great USAir clubs, rocking chairs, nice people, and always on time.

The distance from UB Stadium to Ladd Peebles Stadium is 1,164 and with current traffic 17 hours and 18 minutes of drive time.  So doing the math like we did before (rental car, fuel, and etc.) is $520.  Party of four breaks down to $130 per person.

What the guests have to say:

We just stayed here overnight on our way to Florida. This was conveniently located with restaurants nearby. We would stay here again.

This is a third rate property. The phone in the room did not have a dial tone, there was no wireless internet service (although it was advertised) and there was no TV remote. Beware.

The Road Warrior. Courtyard Mobile/Daphne  $88 per night

What the guests have to say:

Exceeded our expectations! From the renovation to comfort to food to location within walking distance of town, Fort Conde Inn was all we hoped for. Too bad we had such a short stay but hope to get back to Mobile sometime and Fort Conde will be our first choice.

We stayed in the Antunez Carriage House Royal Suite and it would be our first choice again. We had the whole house to ourselves and loved it! The only thing we would change is to bring our own pillows because we both need additional support for our "old" necks. The bedding was awesome and loved the bath! We regret that we only took advantage of the breakfast one morning..we slept in the first one! Unbelievable service and food! It's not really convenient to walk to downtown shopping, but the drive is short and there is plenty of parking downtown. There is a very good selection of restaurants in Mobile. Fairhope is also a short drive and has a large but very quaint downtown shopping district.

Where to Eat in Mobile:

Wintzell's Oyster House.  Near to shore, eat seafood.  A Mobile institution famous for oysters for over 75 years.

Osman's Restaurant Don't let the outside fool you.  Even though there are bars on the windows and a the neighborhood isn't great once you get inside those two things are quickly forgotten. The food is outstanding and they have a good foreign beer selection.

You are in the south so you have to get BBQ.  If you are in Mobile, you have to go the Brick Pit.

Where to go for a frosty cold adult beverage:

Hayley's Nar Really cool Dive Bar in downtown Mobile. Do not expect any slick, new, shiny atmosphere here...It is the real deal dive bar. But, the service is friendly, drinks strong and priced well. They are open late.

Heroes Sports bar & Grille. Best sports bar in Mobile.  Great atmosphere for college and pro football.  You WILL be able to find the game you are looking for, no matter how obscure. Service is always top notch, very consistent. Food is on the good side of standard bar fare.  Cajun wings are great. Conecuh sausage poboy is great. Burgers are quite good. Avoid the nachos.

What do you have to do before you leave Mobile:

What you really should do is make you trip investment back and more back at the Dog Track -Here Comes Rusty!  If you have never been to the dog track go.  It is fun and watching the local degenerates is awesome.  The best thing to do is take a tour of the USS Alabama.  Imagine the Sullivan but on crazy steroids.
