Best of Bull Run 2013: #4 - Reggie Witherspoon Fired

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

With over 1100 articles published in 2013 and so many iconic moments this year, the second annual Best of Bull Run list was even harder to narrow down than last year.

After the extension handed to Quinn for a career winning percentage of .250, there was no way new Athletic Director Danny White would fire Reggie Witherspoon who had a winning percentage of .553 since 2003, where he build the basketball program from a laughingstock to a perennial contender in the MAC East.

But that's just what he did.

The move split Bull Run nation into a venn diagram.

Happy: Love White, Hate Reggie

Sad: Hate White, Love Reggie

Confused: Love White, Love Reggie & Hate White, Hate Reggie.

Some thought Reggie needed to go. Some thought Reggie deserved to stay at least one more year with the talented senior class he recruited. Some thought Reggie deserved to stay as long as he wanted. The man with the vote that counts thought it was time to bring in someone new.

Danny White, a Basketball guy, had passed on football, but called an isolation play when it came to basketball. As a result, his legacy rides on the success of Jeff Quinn and the success of the man he chose to replace the iconic Witherspoon.
