Around SBN: New York Giants Super Bowl XLVI Ring Unveiled

Upcoming Feature: The Best UB Team of all Time

I'm going to put together a 32 team bracket of the best Buffalo teams ever.

Right now I am considering

  • Grouping A for Football
  • Grouping B for Hoops
  • Grouping C for Men's non Revenue
  • Grouping D for Women's non Revenue

Eight teams in each grouping won't be hard with the revenue sports but I could use some input for the non revenue sports.

I am thinking of the Womens Crew team of 2009, The Men’s baseball that made the tourny back in the 60’s..

But I know some of you have been following all UB sports back to the stoneage what say you?

Yea, but it's either enjoy or ignore the past

Here is what I am looking at for football (and not 2007 is not on the list)

1958 Football 8-1
2008 Football 8-6
1947 Football 8-1
1897 Football 7-0
1959 Football 8-1
1899 Football 6-0
1996 Football 8-3
1948 Football 6-1-1

I’m looking at how they do against their class of school, not nationally. We cant help that UB was a small private school for the first 60 years of athletics nor that SUNY made it difficult to get back to division one after the 1970 lights out decision

The 1986 9-2 team should be included over the 1897 or 1899 teams. That team should have gone to the NCAA Division III tournament that year and was ranked in the top four in the East for most of the second half of the season. They lost two games. One to a Division II Towson State and the other to Ithaca when Coach Dando was the Un-Ara and went for two for the win and came up short 22-21. That team also beat a Villanova team that on the verge of returning to Division I-AA the following season with many of the recruited players on it getting scholarships that year.

In 1899 there were no set rules for football. Teams would agree of the rules for the game before each game was played.
