Not a great week for UB's strength of schedule.
In the Big East
- Pitt got crushed by Rutgers
- UConn was slaughtered by West Virginia
In the SEC
- Tennessee was destroyed by Georgia
And in the MAC
- Ball State Squashed by Temple (Who we play next week)
- EMU punched in the nose by Toledo
- Akron choked one away against FIU
- Bowling Green was embarrassed by western Michigan
So who won?
- NIU and Temple dispatched their opponents, unfortunately for UB those are our next two opponents.
- Miami got their first win after sneaking past Army
- Stony Brook beat up on Presbyterian

Rutgers 34, Pitt 10: Panthers Cough it Up Again. And Again. And Again - Cardiac Hill
Ray struggled early, hampered by what appeared to be minor leg injuries. He seemed to get going in the second half, but after Pitt scored to bring the game to 20-10, Rutgers proceeded to score soon after to make it 27-10 and the game was out of reach. He still had 165 yards and a TD, but he got absolutely no help from the passing game
Back to the norm: Rutgers defeats Pitt 34-10 - On the Banks
Tino Sunseri was all kinds of dreadful yesterday, but there were extenuating circumstances. Todd Graham is trying to fit him into some weird spread/option hybrid, when Sunseri originally signed on to play for Frank Cignetti. Furthermore, the Pittsburgh offensive line was bad to begin with, and is dreadful absent the injured Chris Jacobson and Lucas Nix. In retrospect, it seems insane that anyone could have picked a team with awful line play against the blitz-happy Rutgers defense. That worm sure has turned. Pitt doesn't have Scott Shafer as defensive coordinator, so Gary Nova barely broke a sweat in the pocket yesterday. The Rutgers line is more than adequate in pass protection, while Pittsburgh's injuries have it now assuming the mantle from Rutgers as the nation's worst offensive line.

Temple 42 Ball State 0 " Over The Pylon
Offensively, the Cards again struggled and shot themselves in the foot with turnovers, something that didn’t happen in the victories and simply cannot happen in games where the talent level is that different as it was on Saturday. Because of that, the Cards suffered their 4th worst home loss in program history and the first time they’ve been shutout on Homecoming in 35 years. That isn’t the good kind of history to make. Defensively, Temple had two backs go over 100 yards and they pretty much did whatever they wanted whenever they wanted.

Post-Game Hangover: Connecticut (10/9/11) Edition - The Smoking Musket
On a beautiful, warm, sunny day in Morgantown yesterday, the Connecticut Huskies worked their gameplan to almost perfection during the first half, only to see the Mountaineers explode during the third quarter following a costly red-zone fumble by UConn. As much post-game coverage (including the animated drive chart) as I could find is inside. Be sure to vote for Geno this week in the Capitol One Cup Impact Performance of the Week (Garrison won this last week).

Vols Lose Game to Georgia, Tyler Bray to Big Orange Pox - Rocky Top Talk
But the bad news wasn't. The Vols could make nothing of a hilarious 4th and 56 for Georgia, and Bray later whacked his throwing hand against a Georgia defender's helmet and either broke or dislocated his thumb. Our kicker had an extra point blocked and then kicked the onside attempt out of bounds. And LSU and Alabama are up next. And then South Carolina.
Georgia Bulldogs Top Tennessee Volunteers: 20-12 Victory Virtually Assures 2012 for Mark Richt - Dawg Sports
We didn’t know coming in whether the 2011 Georgia team, like the 2010 Georgia team, would lose every close game it played or win only against teams that were destined to finish below .500. We knew coming in that the Bulldogs hadn’t won in Knoxville since 2005 and hadn’t beaten a Volunteer team that would end up with a winning record since 2003. We don’t know now whether this team can win the East, but we know this team and these coaches believe in themselves, so maybe, just maybe, it wouldn’t be altogether out of line to suggest that perhaps we might want to start believing in them, too.

FalconBlog--Triumphs and Trials in the BGSU Falcon Nation: WMU Recap, Part II
Coach said that we have too many 3 and outs. We have two types of drives--TD drives and 3 and outs. Four of our 10 real drives were 3 and out, and 2 were 6 and out (and those were after the game was out of reach). We need to make consistent first downs to control the clock and field position, was his point.
