Stadium Journey Rates Alumni Arena
Wondered what people thought of the rating that Alumni Arena received over at StadiumJourney.com...Is the review accurate? The reviewer, Peter Farrell, is really experienced in traveling to sports venues, and he was especially harsh on the atmosphere at a Bulls basketball game. The fans took a bit of a beating as well. What can be done to make the experience at Alumni Arena better, and which comes first, a good team or a great basketball atmosphere?

Awful Review...
There are plenty of ‘digs’ you can take at UB but this piece seemed only to target the university for sport rathern than review the Arena
“Out in the suburbs of the city of Buffalo, you’ll find the campus of the university that bears the city’s name.”
UB has three campuses and two of them are within the city limits. The one campus (undergrad) not in the city limits is a five minute drive from one of the city campuses.
“It’s a place somewhat devoid of character and soul”
Hard to argue that UB’s north campus is a bit bland but that has been changing, but whats the point? Alumni is nowhere near the spine of the university and as such a visitor could drive to a game, park, go in, and see nothing but Baird, the UBCFA, and Alumni itself. Pointless dig
“There’s a capacity of six thousand here, and it’s designed with most seats on one side of the venue.”
Actually there used to be a ton of wooden bleachers that were removed to reduce the maintenance cost.
“This creates a dynamic of a high roof that gives the venue a more overwhelming look than necessary.”
Not when full (but that hardly happens any more). Back in the middle of the decade when 4-6K crowds were the norm that arena was hopping. But yo’re right that it is a bit asymmetrical.
“It is easy to get to the campus, but getting to the arena once on it can be a chore. Get off the interstate 290 spur at Millersport Highway North and swing a left onto Flint until you hit the campus then make a right towards the arena.”
Chore? you enter the university make a right and drive until you see the Arena. And id thats too much to remember you can follow the whole one sign needed to tell you " Alumni Arena —>"
