MAC Blogger Pick'em, Week Three

The title defense for "Let's Go Rockets" is going strong after two weeks. The two headed monster of MAC Blogger Pick'em (L8N, and JPH split their picks) is out to a two game lead over the pack, and is the only blog to be perfect in conference or with their upset picks. In fact, if not for the FCS upsets of BSU and Akron last week LGR would be perfect on the year!

As always MAC Blogger Pick'em uses the spreads generated by the CollegeFootballPoll.com computer. This is the first week that their favorite differs from the popular betting lines. Temple, a Vegas dog by five points, is favored by the computer by what has to be considered a statistical tie (0.3 points).

The Owls have so much reason to want this game. Let's put aside the fact that a win moves them to 3-0 for the first time in my lifetime. Let's put aside the hard feelings they might have because UConn slid into the Big East at about the same time Temple was booted. Finally put aside the legitimacy that beating a team from the Big East would give the Owl's in the eyes of AP voters.
Even if you ignore all of that Temple would still be foaming at the mouth for this game. They were ripped off in 2007, and they lost because of a monsoon in 2008. If you want to read more on the game check out The Owl's Nest or Temple Football Forever.

Pre-Kickoff Ballot notes:
Teams
Road Warriors: The teams that are most picked to win on the road. In the event of a tie the lowest computer generated point spread will decide.

  • Central Florida wins it this week with nine bloggers picking the Knights, who are favored by a TD in Amherst.
  • Central Michigan is a close runner up. Nine MAC bloggers think that the Chips will extend the Eagles losing streak to fifteen and favored by three touchdowns.
  • Connecticut is selected by eight Bloggers to spoil the Owls 'perfect' season.
Home Boyz: The teams most often picked to win at home. Games where an FCS team is being hosted are not eligible. The Tie Breaker will be the greatest computer generated point spread:
  • OSU, with their four touchdown spot on Ohio run away with a sweep of Bloggers
  • PSU also sweeps the Blogger ballots but is only a three touchdown margin
  • Kentucky, with 18 points to give, and a sweep of the ballots is on the platform.
Poochie: The Underdog most often picked. The tie breaker is the greatest computer lowest point spread:
  • UConn, because of a fluke in the computer generated score, is an underdog so their nine picks wins the day
  • In a distant second is Bowling Green, picked six times to beat Marshall
  • Toledo is picked three times.
Bloggers

Kennel Club Member: The blog that picks the most dogs. The tie breaker is the greatest sum of the spreads from their pooches.
  • Van Delay - 4 (Bowling Green, Buffalo, Connecticut, Toledo)
Dog Hater: The blog that is most averse to picking dogs. The tie breaker is the least sum of the spreads from their pooches
  • The Owls Nest: 0 Dogs
Dare Devil: The boldest single pick of the week
  • EMU Eagles for channeling his inner Homer and picking his team despite the 23 points the computer is giving Central.
