West Faces one week suspension

The Mid-American Conference (MAC) office announced that it will impose a one-game suspension on UB offensive lineman Andrew West for violating the MAC Sportsmanlike Conduct rules during the game against Ohio. West will be suspended for Buffalo’s next regular season game at Miami on Nov. 18, 2009.

The league suspension is functionally a symbolic one as Turner Gill had already suspended him for the upcoming game against the RedHawks, A fact acknowledged by the league.
"I want to thank Buffalo Head Coach Turner Gill and Director of Athletics Warde Manuel for the proactive manner in which they have addressed this matter." -- Dr. Jon Steinbrecher
West, like many UB offensive linemen, has been fighting injuries all season. He is just recovering from a broken hand and to lose him for one of our two remaining games is a bitter pill but after seeing the hit it's hard to argue with Gill or the MAC that discipline had to be applied. While I don't think west was out to hurt anybody he clearly lost his head after the Maynard interception.
