If Gill can start heavily recruiting across the Eastern United States, and especially Florida, then the MAC needs to be prepared for Buffalo to start kicking ass and taking names.

I like Turners approach. Rather than fight w/ all the other MAC schools in the traditional recruiting grounds, hes going south. Lots of speed down there.

No matter where you go you're going to be fighting with Mid Majors and the big boys.

In FLA you're fighting with the SEC, ACC, and C-USA yet Gill lifted James Potts.

Gill is not running away from MAC recruiting competition he is using his name to look for quality where ever they are, he also does well because red shirts don't mean much to him.

It seems to be working, Gill has more 3 stars this year than Buffalo has had in the past four years combined.

I love the offers on the map.Another UB offer for a big WR/DB from Sweet Home . Maybe the hometown wins out, but hes got some big ones after him.

Thanks W2R, I added him

All-CNY WR/DB Jaiqwan Jones, Cicero North Syracuse, is headed to UB. Hes quick and has potential to get much bigger.

I believe hes a walk-on, not scholarship.

Andre Davis from Maryvale committed in July 2009. He is 6'4 and a solid 275 lbs. He has speed off the cornerand college can only make him better!!!!

Nice Ny flavor in this class. Have you seen the new Upstate v Downstate All Star game. There should be many UB recruits in it.

Ill Have to keep an eye on that one, I would imagine at least three UB recruits will be invited to play...

Did you ever wonder why a recruit from down south would want to go play for a team like Buffalo?? It just makes me wonder if they can't recruit the top local prospects and need to go elsewhere and recruit 2nd tier guys?? Just wondering.

by collegenewbie on Jan 19, 2010 1:20 PM EST reply actions

Well first off I think you're doing a disservice to some of the WNY guys that UB has landed this season, three of whom are All State players. And thats to say Nothing of JV from Canada who was on the radar for their national team. UB get's the guy's they want locally.

The only 'one to get away' this season is Flu, and I think since Potts has committed (and reasserted he is going to UB last week) that everyone involved (UB/Flu) felt that UB had no need for two marquee backs.

Flu wants to play, he has a better shot at playing in Toledo than Buffalo.

UB does get quality guys from their recruiting area but show me a successful program that does not dabble in the rich recruiting waters of the South East and Texas?

James Potts had an offer from MSU? is he a second Tier guy?

Now onto why play at Buffalo?

It's a solid academic program. It's a large state university on track to grow 25% in the next decade. It is now fielding competitive football teams. Finally stereotypes aside the Buffalo/Niagara region its a beautiful area with friendly people.

The weather 'problem' that Buffalo is so maligned for (lake effect Snow) is an early December through mid February issue this is outside of football season and during the worst of it school is not in session (chances are the kid is home with his family)

Jeff Quinn and his staff that he brought from Cincinnati are the real deal for recruitng and playing high caliber football. I live in Cincinnati and grew up in Western New York and have followed Bulls football for many many years. Wait to you see the spread offensive!!
